At E-Motion Veterinary Rehabilitation, recovery is more than just treatment. It is a journey or care and connection.

Dr. Amanda Ahokas

I have been a veterinarian for 18 years. I have done on-call emergencies, surgery, and dentistry. I have done it all. I have noticed that medicine is changing and becoming more and more fast-paced. In a world of business, veterinary medicine has become very rushed.

I started to feel like I could not spend the time to help patients who had complex needs. They deserved so much more than I could give in a 30-minute appointment.
I also felt that the tools I had in general practice were just not adequate for those pets who had chronic pain or who were healing from surgery or injury.

When my own dog, Willow developed a pulled muscle that took her out of competitive agility for 6 months, I learned the value of rehabilitation. Shockwave, laser, therapeutic exercise, and underwater treadmill were all required to get her back out there enjoying her time in sport.

That experience pushed me towards rehabilitation medicine. I have completed the training for this and I am now Certified Companion Animal Rehabilitation Therapist. This field excites me because it is really about comfort and quality of life. I now have the resources to really feel like I can make a difference in these animal’s lives. Although medications are still part of my scope of practice, I have so many new tools to reduce pain and get pets back in motion.

House Calls

Have your veterinarian send us a referral to schedule your pet’s first assessment.

Benefits of House Calls:

Convenience, stress reduction for pets, personalized home environment assessment.

How to Prepare:

Please find a space that is comfortable for both you and your pet but that also has space for them to move around a bit.

We may have them lay down so having their bed handy is also a great plan. Going outside for a brief walk may be part of the exam so having a leash and your jacket handy is also ideal. Have a list of any questions you might have.

We will bring our own treats, but having some of your pet’s favourites handy is a good idea.

What to Expect:

A typical house call starts with getting to know you and your pet and making sure everyone is comfortable. We then will go over the history and questionnaire you were provided with. This is also a time to ask questions and discuss your goals. After that we will examine your pet. Depending on the problem area this may be done part in standing and part laying down. We may go for a short walk outside to see them move as well. After that we will go over the findings and discuss your goals.
We will then formulate a plan based on these goals.
